Chestnuts, which are frequently consumed during the winter months, actually grow in the fall. They ripen toward the end of summer and are harvested in October and November.
Fresh chestnuts can be considered fresh fruit due to their 45-55% water content. Therefore, cold storage temperatures should be -1°C and humidity should be 85-90%.
Packaging is also very important in chestnut storage. To reduce water loss, perforated polyethylene bags and tin cans are used as packaging materials. Under appropriate conditions, fresh chestnuts can be stored for 2-5 months.
At SCA Metal, we continue to support you with our Lockable Cold Room Panels to ensure your harvested products are stored under the most suitable conditions for you.
